Retiring Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1

Description

TLS encryption is the minimum requirement for connecting to Mailprotector’s email resources. By default, SMTP communications use opportunistic Transport Layer Security (TLS) connections. After September 1, 2025, TLS 1.2 or higher connections will be required through Mailprotector’s relay.

Partners with connected multi-function printers (MFPs), scanners, voicemail systems, hardware appliances, and old applications are most at risk of experiencing a service disruption. Older devices may not have a path to upgrade TLS connections.

Applies to:

CloudFilter, SafeSend, SMTP Relay

Deprecation Schedule

Mailprotector will stop supporting connections that do not meet TLS 1.2 or higher. As an email security provider, we must enforce best practices to protect partners and their customers. Devices and applications that connect over TLS 1.0 and 1.1 will no longer be supported as of September 1, 2025.

Recommended action

To avoid potential email disruptions, confirm that your resources using Mailprotector SMTP relay services use TLS 1.2 or later.

  • If an application or device exclusively uses TLS 1.2 or later, you don't need to take further action.
  • Applications and devices still using TLS 1.0 or 1.1 should transition their workloads to TLS 1.2 or later versions.

Some applications or devices do not offer an upgrade path to TLS 1.2 or higher. If the app or device relies on Mailprotector's SMTP relay for email service, the emails will stop working. Please contact the app or device manufacturer's support for implementing TLS 1.2 or higher. Another option is to use an SMTP relay provider that supports older applications and devices through other means of connection authentication.
