Manage Trusted Regions

Description

Shield allows for geographic areas to be automatically trusted, untrusted, or marked as dangerous. Mail from trusted regions will add no additional risk to a message, but mail from dangerous regions will be flagged as high risk. Shield Admins can add a country, region, or continent to the list and designate it as either trusted or dangerous.

Trusted Regions

Shield Admins can add a country, region, or continent to the list and designate it as either trusted or dangerous. By default, the US and Canada will be added as trusted regions, while China, North Korea, Russia, and Iran will be added as dangerous regions.

Organizations onboarded to Shield on or before April 15, 2025, will have different default values to preserve Shield’s current behavior. Untrusted regions will be set to no risk, so the new feature will not impact mail flow decisions. The US and Canada will be added as trusted regions, but no dangerous regions will be pre-populated.

Manage Trusted Regions

The Manage Trusted Regions feature is located on the organization's Shield Control. Inside the default trusted and blocked regions are listed.

If a message is received from a region that has not been designated as trusted or dangerous, it will be flagged as untrusted. Mail from untrusted regions will be low risk by default; however, this can be configured in the risk level settings.

Trust Priority

Regions are evaluated from most specific to least specific. For example, a Trusted country will be trusted even if its region or continent is designated as Dangerous, and a Dangerous country will be blocked even if its region or continent is Trusted.
