Configure SRV Record for Exchange+ Autodiscover

Description

Microsoft Exchange Server and Outlook clients as of 2013 and later rely on the Autodiscover process to connect the client to the mailbox. Autodiscover behavior has been changing recently due to updates to the Outlook software from Microsoft. A preference towards Office 365 endpoints and autodiscover proxy servers cause some headaches.

Mailprotector recommends changing the SRV target address to fit your client's configuration best.

SRV Record Details

Each domain in the Mailprotector Console will show the configured SRV record on the Status page. Begin by checking the SRV record on the Status page or using a DNS lookup tool such as MXToolbox.

The SRV record information on the Status page of the domain in the Console appears as shown in Figure 1.

The Target field is the highlighted hostname. This is the field you may need to modify to correct odd Outlook behavior due to changes in the Autodiscover process. The recommended record of autodiscover.emailservice.io should work well for most situations. The address points to an autodiscover proxy server that directs a user's connection request to the correct resource at Mailprotector.

If users are experiencing odd behaviors such as password requests for public folders or shared mailboxes, repeated password requests for their mailbox, or the inability to connect a new profile on a new computer, please see below for recommended hostnames for the Target field.

SRV Target Field Recommendations

First, you must determine which Exchange+ platform your domain is hosted on. It will either be Exchange+ 2013 or Exchange+ 2016. The screenshots below will show the difference between the Exchange Panels to make the determination.

Exchange+ 2013 Users

If the Exchange Management Panel appears like the image above, the domain is hosted on the Exchange+ 2013 platform.

Recommended Target Field Hostname:

The hostname will be exchange.mailprotector.com

Exchange+ 2016

If the Exchange Management Panel appears like the image above, the domain is hosted on the Exchange+ 2016 platform.

Recommended Target Field Hostname:

The hostname will be exchange.emailservice.io

BEST PRACTICE REMINDER: In most cases, the target hostname of autodiscover.emailservice.io will work as expected. Several factors play into Autodiscover behavior and the hostname options above may help resolve those outlier issues.

@Alonso - We are happy to help. I am opening a ticket request to help you. The best option is to submit a request from https://support.mailprotector.com/hc/en-us/requests/new since Autodiscover situations will be specific to a domain.
